Lot’s Wife
March 7, 2022
This week the Lord took me to Genesis 19, which chronicles the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. As I read, the Spirit strongly highlighted verse 26,
“But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”
Genesis 19:26
Then He said to me,
“Lot’s wife represents My Church.”
God is even now bringing righteous justice to His Bride, sweeping away the structures which have kept us prosperous in religious complacency, cozy with our sin. And although the past two years have witnessed voices in the Church declaring a season of new wine and new wineskins, the truth is that two years later we are just like Lot’s wife. As we are coming face-to-face with the reality of letting go of our comfort, of running into something new and unknown, of cutting the ties with the world’s ways of familiar sin, we are looking back with longing. With fear. With doubt. But, no matter the motive, we are looking back in disobedience to the instruction of the Lord to
“Get up, get out and DON’T LOOK BACK!”
We are complacent and unwilling to forge ahead in surrendered obedience.
Lot’s wife became a pillar of salt, a monument to her own rebellion. Immovable. Lifeless.
Church, we must WAKE UP. We must recognize the high cost of our unwillingness to move out of our comfortable, religious ways of playing church! Comfort is one of our greatest idols. We must embrace the NEW TERRITORY into which God is sending us. We CAN NOT LOOK BACK. We CAN NOT GO BACK. Behind us is nothing but the righteous justice of God. Ahead of us is deliverance, salvation and an unprecedented move of the Holy Spirit. We MUST heed the warning of Jesus,
“Don’t forget the example of Lot’s wife and what happened to her when she turned back. All who are obsessed with being secure in life will lose it all – including their lives. But those who let go of their lives and surrender to me will discover true life.”
Luke 17: 32-33 (TPT)
